About Aasraa

Aasraa: Reconnecting, Rebuilding, and Reigniting Sevaa
After a short hiatus, Aasraa is back in full force — reconnecting with our community, rebuilding partnerships, and launching new initiatives rooted in Sikh values of compassion, courage, and collective belonging. We’re working with both long-standing and new partner organizations to strengthen our impact across Metro Detroit and beyond.
Who We Are
began as a small food initiative in February 2015, serving just 33 people on opening day. Through the dedication of volunteers and the support of the Dasvandh Network community, Aasraa expanded to launch the Seva Food Truck of Michigan, bringing hot, healthy meals directly to those in need.

Since then, we have proudly served over 100,000 meals, delivering directly to homeless shelters, transitional housing sites, women’s shelters, after-school youth programs, and community centers across Detroit and the surrounding areas.
Each meal is prepared with care, served with dignity, and reflects our belief that everyone deserves nourishment — regardless of race, religion, or background.
Our Next Chapter
Aasraa’s mission continues to grow beyond food security. We are expanding our focus toward youth and community empowerment, with new programs centered on:
- Youth Self-Defense & Empowerment Classes
- The Jaswant Singh Khalra 5K, honoring truth and justice
- Leadership and Wellness Workshops (coming soon)
- Professional Services and Sevaa-based Community Projects (coming soon)
These initiatives build on our core values — helping individuals and families develop strength, confidence, and purpose through sevaa (selfless service).

How You Can Help
Your continued support fuels every act of sevaa.
With rising costs of ingredients, fuel, and supplies, it now takes approximately $8.60 to prepare and deliver a fresh, balanced meal for a family of four — about $2.15 per person.
Every dollar you give directly supports:
- Nutritious, hot meals through the Seva Food Truck
- Partnerships with shelters and community programs
- Supplies and training for our leadership and empowerment initiatives
Pledge $8.60 – Feed one family
Pledge $86 – Feed 10 families
Pledge $172 – Feed 20 families
Together, we continue to nourish our community — body, mind, and spirit — and uphold the timeless ideal of Degh Tegh Fateh, serving humanity with compassion, courage, and collective belonging.
