View Ensaaf’s new detailed dossier on senior police officer Jasminder Singh, documenting his command responsibility for at least 111 cases of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial execution committed in Punjab.
The dossier highlights SSP Jasminder Singh’s direct role in the abduction, torture, and disappearance of human rights defender Sukhwinder Singh Bhatti. In May 1994, security forces abducted Bhatti in broad daylight, held him in clandestine custody, and tortured him. Eyewitnesses later saw him critically injured.
A Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry gathered evidence directly implicating Jasminder Singh in running an unofficial interrogation center where Bhatti and others were detained and tortured. Ensaaf’s findings underscore a pattern of systematic abuses carried out under SSP Jasminder Singh’s authority, crimes for which he was repeatedly promoted and never held accountable.
