Overview
The backdrop of this event will be recognizing the 60th anniversary of the grand initiatives President John F. Kennedy was pursuing in June 1963. As such, many surviving icons of that era will be invited as guests (including a few members of the Kennedy family).
The event will take place at the home of Sikh gentleman Dr. Amarjit Singh Marwah in Malibu on Sat, June 10, 2023. It will be a full daylong event starting at 12 noon and ending roughly by 8 or 9 pm. A formal lunch and dinner will be served. (There will be an intermission and breaks as well.)
This event will be historical in scope and we hope to bring together a diverse group of special guests for this occasion. Some guests will be arriving from around the country and a few will be coming from overseas.
Also, descendants of the famed Non-Aligned leaders of the 1960s will also be invited. And many current elected officials from around the nation and within California will also be guests, such as Gov. Gavin Newsom, a handful of U.S. Senators, and several Members of Congress as well as big city mayors. (The political guests will technically be bipartisan in that Republican Senator Mitt Romney and one or two GOP Members of Congress will be invited, though the overall leanings of more of the elected officials will tend to be Democratic.)
Highlights & Impact
One major feature of the day will be to highlight the stories of prominent Sikh-Americans to this assembled gathering of distinguished guests and a diverse audience. We aim to showcase the histories of Bhagat S. Thind (his 81-year-old son will be invited), Congressman Dalip S. Saund (his former campaign manager, Dr. Marwah, will be the host of the day) and Saund's friendship with John F. Kennedy, etc.
Also, prominent Sikhs of present day who will be acknowledged as honored guests will include the following: the family and board of the Kapany Foundation (in memory of Dr. Narinder S. Kapany, the "Father of Fiber Optics"), recently-elected California Assemblywoman Dr. Jasmeet K. Bains, Washington State Senator Manka Dhingra, Sutter County Supervisor Karmdeep S. Bains (whose father was renowned farmer Didar S. Bains), Dr. Chirinjeev S. Kathuria (who headed a space exploration company years ago and is currently leading founder of biomedical firms), central California agriculturist Charanjit S. Baatth, retired El Toro Marine Base supervisor and engineer Dr. Piara Singh (the longest serving president of the Hollywood Gurdwara), retired physician and Sikh scholars' symposium convener Dr. Jasbir S. Mann, and other prominent Sikhs. (Invites will also be sent to some Sikh Members of Parliament from Canada and the U.K. as well.)
By highlighting the above-mentioned Sikhs, we will emphasize their vast contributions to the distinguished audience and how such impact by Sikhs will continue to grow in greater American society far into the future.
Finally, there will also be an accompanying 10-20 page official program booklet for each guest featuring the day's agenda, schedule, and honored speakers, and esp. highlighting the generosity of the sponsors. Also some pages will be dedicated to featuring photographs and brief biographies of prominent Sikhs and their lasting contributions.
Sponsors & Fundraising
As a reminder, this event's partnering sponsor is Sikh (Sikhlens), the event's host and venue is Sikh (Dr. Marwah), and the co-host and master of ceremonies is Sikh (myself). In addition, mutiple Sikh organizations, businesses, non-profits, and foundations will be invited (such as SALDEF, Sikh Coalition, United Sikhs, Sikh Research Institute, etc.)
To accommodate this rare occasion, some major funding will be needed but we believe with the help of several sponsors and contributors we can make this one of the most memorable events in recent American history. Any and all funds from a vast set of individuals and donors would be put to efficient use and greatly appreciated!
Thank you 🙏
