The SEVA Festival: Los Angeles is more than an event, it’s the launchpad for a movement where the idea of SEVA can be reimagined for the community's urgent needs. Our mission is to fuse profound, historically rooted Sikhi wisdom, centered on Seva (selfless service) and Sangat (community), with immediate, measurable social action in Los Angeles. We are building a vibrant gathering dedicated to launching a full 7 Days of Seva action campaign. By adopting the principles of Doughnut Economics, the festival focuses every workshop and performance on securing the essential Social Foundation (health, housing, equity, education, food, water, energy) while respecting the Ecological Ceiling (climate, clean energy, soil health, biodiversity, fire mitigation, air quality). Crucially, this festival is designed as an engine for the local ecosystem of change: local LA nonprofits and community-based organizations (CBOs) are invited, integrated, and celebrated throughout the entire day, gaining a massive platform to share their critical work and engage a dedicated audience.
Our immediate objective is to fully fund this inaugural festival, ensuring fair compensation for every local artist, vendor, and staff member (targeting the $150,000 range). Every dollar pledged is an investment in sustaining local activism. The festival's primary result is the mass mobilization of attendees into tangible projects during the subsequent Week of Seva. By backing this campaign, you are investing in the Sangat, the community of organizations that make LA thrive. Your support validates a model where a sober, culturally rich, and joyous celebration is explicitly designed to drive social and ecological impact, proving that mindful gathering, cultural celebration, and selfless service are the most powerful and sustainable tools for building a more just and resilient Los Angeles. Help us fund this unique platform and turn inspiration into deeply rooted, collaborative action.
What makes this experience truly unique is our commitment to immersive, living history. We are intentionally hiring actors, musicians, and performers to embody historically adjacent characters to the Sikh Gurus, alongside iconic figures like the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, the Bhakti Saint Mirabai, Kabir, and the justice advocate Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. These performers will not just be on a stage; they will be immersed, moving through the crowd, collaborating with local nonprofits, and leading workshops. For example, a character embodying Baba Siri Chand will guide our morning Kirat Karo (honest living) yoga, while the revolutionary energy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Panj Pyarey will inspire commitment at our late-night, high-energy Bhangra Dance Party. Your support directly funds these artists and ensures the stories of courage, justice, and compassion are transmitted with power and authenticity to inspire a new generation of activists.
