Rainbow School Punjab – A First-of-Its-Kind Special Needs School
Inspired by Love. Built on Hope. Designed for Change.
Arvinder and Sandeep, are parents from London, UK, blessed with their special needs daughter, Gurleen, who has been their greatest teacher and their inspiration to help children like her in Punjab, India—children with immense potential but little access to the right support.
Arvinder is a retired teacher and teacher trainer, has decades of experience working with children with special needs in London schools. Sandeep has managed and trained personal assistants who work with children and young adults with disabilities. Together, they have spent more than 10 years visiting Punjab every year, seeking out centres for children with special needs.
After visiting more than 20 centres, they discovered the same heartbreaking truth everywhere: while some centres were well-resourced, they lacked the expertise, training, and compassionate practices needed to truly support these children.
The stigma of disability was widespread, and children were being left behind.
That is why they founded the Rainbow Charitable Trust (Registered NGO in Punjab, which has obtained 11a and 80g exemptions, equivalent to 501 3 (c) in US)—to build a world-class, model Special School that really follows the new laws and policies in favour of the disabled, to deliver real, practical change.
A school that will:
· Provide research-based therapies and inclusive education.
· Empower children and young adults to become as independent as possible.
· Train teachers, personal assistants, and parents in best practices.
· Advocate for disability rights and fight stigma at the community, state, and national levels.
They sold a family property in India to purchase a 3-acre site on the main GT Road (NH44) in Fatehgarh Sahib, the sacred land where the youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji were martyred. On this blessed site, they will build the Rainbow School Punjab—a first-of-its-kind model school for children with special needs.
Vision
Phase 1 (2026): Support 100 children and young adults, with outreach to thousands more across the Fatehgarh Sahib district.
Phase 2: Expand to 200 students and extend outreach across Punjab.
Within 3–5 years: Replicate this model in other cities, multiplying the impact across the state.
