Help a student attend SAFAR!

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

I need your help to raise $300.00 by October 15, 2014! This money is going toward the academic conference SAFAR Our Journeys 2014: To Know Is Not Enough. It will be on November 8, 2014, at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Raising $300 will ensure that a student presenter is able to attend the conference.

This cause is really special to me because SAFAR actively works toward educating others and creates much-needed critical dialogue and engagement on issues of gender and sexuality, sex-selective abortion, intimate partner abuse, and other related issues that are often swept under the rug in our community.

SAFAR is a one of a kind conference that facilitates deep discussions on the above topics. Students and scholars from our community gather to present their research to the academic and Sikh community at large. Your support not only ensures that one such student will be able to attend and present her/his work, but also show that, as a community, we value the kind of work s/he is doing.

Being in academia myself, I can honestly say that it's extremely humbling and inspiring to know that my whole community stands by me. In the past, I have received travel bursaries for conferences I would otherwise not have had the means to attend. I would like to ensure that at least one student receives the kind of support I did when I wanted to attend conferences.

Please contribute to my fundraising page, and if you'd like to learn more or donate in addition to this fundraising page, check out the conference's project page here: http://www.dvnetwork.org/projects/safar-our-journeys-2014-conference

Thank you,

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
