Govt. Primary School(GPS), Chalaila, Nandpurkesho, Patiala had everything — qualified teachers, a library, computers, even internet. But enrollment had fallen 21% in three years. Parents preferred private schools. Not because GPS Chalaila was failing. Because no one knew how good it was.
The School Management Committee(SMC) existed, on paper. In reality, no meetings, no plan, no ownership.

In November 2024, Sanjhi Sikhiya Young Leader, Prabhjot Kaur activated the dormant SMC,
facilitating the school's first real meeting, then its first village-wide Gram Sikhiya Sabha. For
the first time, enrollment was a community problem, not just a school problem.
In a door-to-door drive in February 2025, led by SMC members, the Sarpanch, a GPS Chalaila alumnus himself convinced parents by telling them that his own child study there, and the teachers openly asked parents to question any student on any subject in the school. That shifted the parents’ perception more than any campaign could.
