September 10, 2025 (Nationwide) — The Sikh Coalition has been honored to have three wonderful Education Fellows join us this summer!
During their time with the Sikh Coalition, Tarnoor Kaur, Bismaad Kaur, and Tarun Kaur worked with their respective sangats in Texas, Michigan, and Colorado. Their work included:
Tabling at the Sikh National Center in Houston, Texas; Sikh Gurdwara in Rochester Hills, Michigan; and at Colorado Singh Sabha in Commerce City, Colorado, respectively;
Conducting research on the current curriculum changes being made within different states that could potentially allow for Sikh inclusion;
Writing letters to school boards, urging for stronger inclusion and reinclusion of Sikhi in social studies curriculum; and
Helping research for Sikh Coalition’s newest lesson plans as well as creating resource guides for previous lesson plans.
“This fellowship has provided me with so many opportunities to learn more about professional development and collaborate with others within the Sikh community to create a difference. It has also given me a stronger connection to the sangat, while also teaching me the importance of representation in schools,” said Tarnoor Kaur.
“Ultimately, my experience with the Sikh Coalition has broadened my understanding of how individuals can influence education. I am forever grateful for this opportunity to learn and contribute to a cause so close to my heart, and I thank you for supporting the Sikh Coalition—and by your support, making opportunities like this possible for students like me,” said Bismaad Kaur.
“Through the Sikh Coalition, I gained insight into how state education curriculum decisions are made and how much effort and dedication it takes to create real change. But most importantly, I have seen how powerful it is when we can share our personal stories and experiences through our classrooms: Not only does it raise awareness—it also creates an environment where our younger generation can feel valued, represented, and seen in their schools,” said Tarun Kaur.
We are excited for the work Tarnoor, Bismaad, and Tarun will pursue beyond this fellowship and we wish them the best of luck! The Sikh Coalition is always grateful for the opportunity to have young sangat members join our work, and we encourage interested students to keep an eye on our careers page for future internship and fellowship opportunities.
As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
